This weekend we had different plans. Of course we were leaving for home, after a tensive CT week. But, we planned to take a different route, a route different from which I usually used to take. The usual mode of transit was boarding a train from Trichy to Chengalpet and then get home by a bus. Simple and easy it might seem, but I just got bored of it. Yeah, being in the train for such a long time is a real mokkai, makes life pathetic.
So, this time we made the stuff a bit complex and seemingly lengthy, though it wasn’t! Today’s route was from Trichy to Vilupuram to Puducherry and finally home! Round about? Well, I thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Usually I just hated travelling. (This was the first time I was going home after my second semester started!).
At 11.30 am, my mobile sent out vibrations. A message for me. It was Srijith, reminding me to come quickly so that we can leave by 12.30 pm. Not yet packed up and still in EEE lab, watching the working of DC and AC motors and clarifying doubts with the teacher. Finally when it was too much shaking of my mobile, I informed the teacher and left the lab. It wasn’t a regular class, just extra time taken. So no problem there.
After a quick packup and a quick lunch, we left NIT Trichy to the Central Railway Station by 12.40 pm. Reaching the station, we find the train delayed by an hour. Indian Railways, rarely on time. Well, we hadn’t reserved any tickets and bought unreserved tickets. The train came whistling at 3 pm and soon we got in and occupied unoccupied seats. We expected the seats to be occupied by the time the train reached Srirangam.
At Srirangam, the seats got occupied by a gang of commuters, who had reserved the seats, we went for other unoccupied seats, got a few. Some of us standing and some sitting we travelled. Walking through the length of the train, to the pantry car and here and there, time flowed by and soon we reached Vilupuram by 6 pm.
In usual cases by the time we reached Vilupuram, we would have reached our non-bored limits and would start feeling like doing something mischievous. Well, no problem here. Getting off the train we went on to board a bus straight to Pondy. No, delay, the bus was waiting for us! 8.15 pm and Pondy here we come! Did not know what was happening during the transit. Had already drifted into deep sleep.
By the time, I was awake, I had reached Pondy Bus Stand. Yeah, the bus that will take me home, there it was, boarded it and soon we are off. The cool breeze, the songs from a near by cell phone. Perfect ambience to sleep, but I chose not to. I looked around, very few fellow passengers. The outside was dark. What to do. We discussed how we spent our money. I had 200 bucks when I left Trichy. Now there was only 15/-
NO. The transit wasn’t that costly. Most of the cash was spent for eatables and drinks. A brief look on the transit charges.
Train – Trichy to Vilupuram = 53 bucks per head
Bus – Vilupuram to Pondy = 11 bucks per head
Bus – Pondy to Kalpakkam = 35 bucks per head
Total = 99 bucks and travel complete. The remaining cash was spent for magazines and food, as I mentioned before.
So safe home and typing out this post. Nothing noteworthy happened during the transit as far as I remember. Well, that might be because, it’s time I get into bed. May be my memory is shutting down for today to get some rest. So how is the new route? Exciting and Interesting. You never get bugged and you are always on the move! I am gonna take up the same route the next time also.

That was an interesting piece of reading…quite casual…..refreshing and it brought back memories of my days of travelling…….though I have the travel bug in me and am doing quite some of it to Bangy and Madras due to 2 of my daughters’ wedding shopping and planning it keeps taking its toll on me….esp after a freak back accident.
!!!!
So young man make the BEST of it while you are young and energetic. I too have a son in St Joseph’s – MCA who was recently in Pondy for a competition at Pope John Paul II College, Reddiarpalayam…..and he too has the travel bug.
